Tech knocks at legal door

In the recent turn of events Karnataka Legislature has yet again succeeded in upscaling the bar of good governance. It  introduced technology in the fields of legal proceedings. Technology is existing around us like the air we breath in. It is in every field of work so why not in legal field as well.

Karnataka legislature passed the bill called The Registration (Karnataka Amendment) Bill 2025 wherein it provides that property registrations can take place without the physical presence of parties. As is stated by the Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda that this would simplify the registration process while also introducing technology. Moreover this also avoids the need to present any form of documents physically, one can present it electronically which shall reduce any sort of tampering with the documents which is quiet a common scenario nowadays.

So all in all the Bill basically rejects the idea of registration process done physically if it is conducted by a trusted and secure source like say the source is BDA or KIADB, etc. their is no need for them to appear at each and every stage of proceedings instead they shall be provided with an automated digital signature which shall be enough to authenticate such registration.

The idea is good, however, it’s implementation is pretty much a tedious task as their could be possibility of tampering with any sort of information using AI (if someone holds such in depth knowledge regarding the use of AI) or the situation could be entirely opposite and it could become difficult for some people to adapt with the new technology especially the older generation. This is still a distant dream to achieve in case of village areas but it is worth a shot.
